MOTORCYCLE

I might have known it was a bad move to fill up the 306 with diesel last
week. I reckon the MoT place clocked the gauge and decided I will be
prepared to spend a fair amount on it to get it through. TBF I have got
away without anything needing doing the last two years, but this year it
has failed on:

Both CV boots split.
Offside rear brake binding
Front brakes releasing unevenly
Handbrake efficiency below requirements.

Advisory - brake discs worn (same as last year)

Problem is my back street place, though very reasonable for labour
charges, understandably cant tell me just what needs doing without at
least pulling the one front caliper, and a rear hub off.

It would seem silly to not have the discs and pads done. For just the CV
boots I wouldnt hesitate as 306 parts are pretty cheap. Even a new rear
brake cylinder wouldnt be too bad. A worst case scenario might arise
though of new calipers, pads, and discs, plus wheel cylinder as well as
the CV boots and the labour to do it all. ICBA with grovelling about
under old cars these days.

Just not worth it I think, for a runabout rather than something you look
forward to driving. I will miss it though. It has been remarkably
reliable. Nearly let me down when a hose went, but a bit of tape got me
home, where a snip and new clip effected a lasting repair. Perfect for
Dads taxi jobs without inflicting cold start wear on the Octavia, can
park it anywhere without worry, and ideal for the chariot race round the
ring road (go on then mate squeeze me in to the armco DILLIGAF).

Treated it to a 2 quid new washer nozzle specially for the MoT as well.

Well I suppose I could Nige it out on Ebay for the value of the diesel.
I cant imagine anyone on here wanting it.
