I thought this would be quick, easy and almost automatic but nothing I
do gives me an obvious solution. I was expecting a wizard to guide
me through it.

TIA

Why not create a new account in Outlook and let this import from
the outlook express, then export to a PST, then transfer this to the new
system and import back into outlook, OK i know its not express but
its a way of getting contact and emails across.
