Our big conference in October, in Barcelona...

And Im going to book my flights, BW, Ł38 out, Ł53 back, including
taxes. Job done.

But nmo. The uberboss has decreed that one of the conference bods has to
book us all together, on the same flight if possible, to save on taxis.
Wtf? Its not as if I use them at this end anyway?

So, its Easyjet, departing 0645.

Whaaa-aaat? But I dont have to be there until the late afternoon.

Its only Ł17.99, plus Ł21 taxes.

Thats Ł36. BA, leaving at a sane time, is Ł38.

And the return is 10.30pm, getting you home at half past midnight. Ł21
plus Ł21 taxes.

I have to travel out to Germany the very next morning. And BA is just
Ł11 pricier, and gets me home five hours earlier....

Its how he wants it.

Have you booked?

No, not yet.

BOOK ME BRITISH AIRWAYS!

Note that the time spent organising all this is going to cost, in
company time, more than the fucking taxi fares. Sheesh.

Whatever it sounds like, its not economising - we dont penny pinch.
Its just the boss micro-managing for the sake of it....

Heh, I have 2 instances of such fucked-upness:
1. A sales conference where my teams boss decreed we (not including
him) should all arrive in a single car to show the other teams that we
were more teamworthy than them. Cue 6 overweight sales reps all trying
to get into a Sierra, with a commedy explosion of bodies as the doors
opened upon arrival. Ho yus, we were certainly a team.

2. Company trip to Barcelona, the whole fucking lot, every man jack of
us (about 30 people). All issued company polo shirts with various
company slogans printed on them, which we had to wear, then upon
arrival having to draw names out of a hat to see who we would be
sharing a room with, when we were told before setting off that it was
all single rooms.

Ye gods...

On a trip to Barcelona (MS Teched 2003) was given expenses money in
Dollars and Ł sterling.

Then proceeded to loose said money (in luggage, somewhere) so got
broadly equivilant amount out in Euros. Spent said money on trip,
kept excellent trail of receipts, and returned.

Found euros and sterling on return, hidden in bottom of bag.

I couldnt make things quite balance with receipts as was given $ (for
a trip to Barcelona? why, god, why?) and spent my money in Euros.
Handed it all in to the boss and it seemed everybody else just did not
bother to keep receipts so estimated all costs.

Spent an afternoon with about 8 people sat round a conference table
with the department director trying to sort out all the expenses.
Mine caused the most problems, what with the exchange problem. Turned
out the company was Ł8 better off on my expenses [1], and all expenses
were receipted and allowable.

Total cost to company? about 4 man days plus a half day of a guy on
100k+ a year.

[1] I think. Not sure, really, if it was Ł8 better off or worse off,
but the story sounds better when they are better off. Either way, a
totally negligable amount for the sheer waste of money and time to
sort out the expenses.

We also had the same problem with single beds - co was saving a bit of
money with hotel shares.

Why dont you ask what would happen to the company were the plane to
crash with all of you on board?
