Hello all.

Ive swapped my Sony STR-DE445 for an Aiwa Hifi. Its plugged into my
computer up here. The Aiwa has got a 3CD changer in it, but its got
full of dust over the last couple of years while it hasnt been used
which causes CDs to skip. Do cleaning CDs work for this kind of thing
generally?

Also: The Sony STR-DE445 is free to good home as long as you arrange
for someone to collect it - its heavy. It needs attention (detailed
later) Ive had it for ages and bought it new as part of my home
cinema setup.

Does Dolby Digital/DTS via optical or coax and component in,
L&Rs for Aux, radio, CD, MD, Tape, TV/Sat, DVD/LD, Video x2 + x4
Video IN composite

I dont fancy the P&P charges on something that weighs more than a
small car.

Theyre actually not that bad - Ive sent quite a lot of heavy stuff around
using standard RM parcels for reasonable money, and that includes bits and
pieces that were heavier than your average home audio amp.

BGN spewed forth the following...

I find those cleaning CDs are only good for preventative maintainence,
rather than being any good for a full-on clean. Those 3-CD Aiwas are prone
to dust buggering up the cd lens, and Ive salvaged dozens of the buggers
where a cleaning CD has failed by gently cleaning the lens manually with a
good old-fashioned cotton bud moistened with surgical alcohol.

Another thing with those Aiwas, if cleaning does not quite do the job, give
the potentiometer on the back of the lens carriage a tweak. Ive also found
that quite a few of them need that too.

You dont pay, the buyer does: before heading over here to the Left Hand
Side of the Pond, I sold a wide range of stuff on eBay including home cinema
kit, a sewing machine and a lot of crockery. The p&p on the home cinema amp
(Panasonic SA9) listing was given as Ł15, with the actual stamps costing
Ł14.71 giving me the princely sum of 29p to pay for the packing!

Cheers

Really? I thought that the pots were laser intensity, but ICBW. If it
is laser control then Id be very careful - semiconductor lasers used
in CD players run very close to the point of self-destruct. Turn it up
too much and itll shorten the diodes life dramatically.
