ok so some cars are going to get free tax discs due to low emissions
but there is no similar arrangement for bikes
In fact we remain on a cc based price scheme, while cars radually all move
to emissions
Not that my choice of bike would be effected by emissions, but I thought I
might
get some faint hope of cheaper tax if my bike was considered low
sulk over.

I suspect an R1 has anything but low emissions when compared to
properly low emission cars.

I dunno so much. There must be some sort of standard test cycle to
derive the emissions value for a paricular car. If its structured
like accelerate to 40mph, then proceed for 250 yds, then brake, then
etc etc, then a bike could be very low.

Too right - and for much urban driving the car will be spending periods
getting zero mpg. A bike is almost always moving.

who cares?

No additional duty on spirits and sparkling wine - job done.

Though the tax on a 2nd mobile phone provided by your employer is
going to impact a lot of people who have company mobiles and
blackberrys.

Yup.
Weve got a mobile phone and will soon be given XDA type devices which will
have data-only sim cards.
Neither of them are used for personal use but if thats becomes taxable Ill
refuse to have an extra device unless I get paid more.

it raises the question - is a mobile phone still a mobile phone if you
never make voice calls on it?

Heresy!!

If you even dare to think in those terms you will end up putting your
foot down. And that is the first step on the path to turning the engine
off.
