firstly, not outlook express.

Can anyone suggest a free, centralised mail system/virus scanner/spam
filter server that I can use with MS Outlook as the client, that will
let me use Outlooks PIM features as well as mail?

should have added - I can *find* lots of these things on Google, but I
wanted an actually recommendation from someone whos actually set one
up. To clarify, I want to run a mail server on my main file server at
home, and have several other PCs on my network access it using MS
Outlook as the client; I want all of the
calendar/tasks/contacts/address book stuff to sync up and work.

Exchange server. Not free, in fact fucking expensive, but AFAIK there is
no freeware equivalent. Suse started doing a linux equivalent, but I
believe that project is in limbo ATM.

yes, I know, which is why I asked the question. I *like* Exchange
Server, but Im not paying for it for my home network, and Im
reluctant to pirate software that isnt a development tool I use
professionally, IYSWIM.

in any case, I wouldnt want a Linux-based solution, as Ive no desire
at this stage to get back into using any form of *nix[1]

Im really not trying to start an argument ;-)

[1] finally ditching Sybase/Solaris in favour of SQL Server/Win2003
Server soon at work - yay!

Are you using it for profit making purposes?

If not, potentially you could use one of your MSDN universal licences (I
assume your company has MSDN Uni) - failing that, if youve still got your
limited company register for Mss Direct Access programme and theyll send
it (and a load of other stuff) for a nominal amount - again so long as you
dont use it for commercial gain.

Possibly you could look at small business server too.

though.
