Hi all,
I noticed when checking the valves tonight that the camchain did not
appear to be tight across the sprockets on the GT550 (Zephyr engine
model).

There doesnt seem to be an indication of how taught it should be in
the HBOL.

Should there be an amount of play between the cam sprockets?

GT550

Manual tensioner or auto? My Bandit has a manual tensoner on it now, and
heres how I decide if its at the right tension.

If it doesnt rattle, it is ok. If it rattles all the time, its too
loose. If it rattles only when its cold, its getting too loose.

I think it is auto, it seemed to rattle on a run this evening.
After cooling down there was no noise!

It may appear slack when you have the cam cover off as ISTR there is a
chain guide in the cam cover which exerts some pressure on the chain
when its bolted in place.

And also because the engine isnt turning to take up the slack (which is
less than a pin) between the inlet and exhaust cams.

Maybe you should take the cam-cover off, remove the plugs and hit the
starter if you want to see what happens?
