As one whos got a 750SS and has ridden a Trixie (and doubtless SteveH,
who had a Trixie and has ridden a 750SS, will be along in a minute....
The Trixie is the basis for a great bike, in that the frame is good, it
looks nice, and the engine is torquey and powerful enough.
There it ends.
The suspension is pretty low-rent. The gearbox lets the engine down, as
it does on the TDM. The seat is bloody awful, and for a pillion its
murder. The brakes are pretty feeble. Worst of all, it sounds and feels
utterly anonymous.
The forks can be upgraded, the rear shock replaced, the calipers
replaced with R1 units, and the stock cans junked for something like Bos
ones. Dunno what you can do about the seat, and youll never be able to
do anything about the gearbox. But youll have a nice bike by then.
I thought it was pretty crappy, actually. Its faster in a straight line
than my SS, but not by much, and on anything other than a motorway the
SS pisses all over it because of the handling and braking.
And the SS offers incredible feedback, which the Trixie doesnt. You
know exactly what the SS is doing, what the tyres are doing, everything.
Its also way lighter.
Finally, the SS is easier and cheaper to service, especially come valve
check time.
Id opt for the 750S every single time. I think you might be lucky to
find a 5000-miler for ukp2000 - Id expect you to pay nearer 2700 for
one as low-mileage as that. Certainly 2.5k.
SV650? Everyone loves em: Ive never ridden one.
